The Safari Experience

The word ‘Safari’ itself derives from the Kenyan language (Kiswahili) and means ‘to undertake a journey, often long, adventurous, and uncertain—a walking trip where luxury and spartan life march together, and new sights are seen, new routes are opened.’

Nothing can quite prepare you for the magnificence and rawness of a safari. It’s an experience that transcends the ordinary. As you traverse the vast landscapes teeming with life, you begin to tune in with the natural world. The rhythms of nature take over, and the wilderness whispers truths that remind us of our place in the grand scheme of existence.

In these moments, we start to feel like the outsiders on this planet we inhabit—humbled and awed by the power and beauty that surround us, reconnecting with the primal essence of life that we often forget in our daily lives.

This retreat is designed for those who seek more than just a vacation. It’s for the adventurers, the dreamers, and the soul-seekers who wish to reconnect with themselves and the natural world in an extraordinary way.

Maasai Mara

The Maasai Mara and Serengeti in November offer a captivating experience. Picture yourself on a morning game drive, observing a pride of lions basking in the early sunlight, or catching a glimpse of towering giraffes gracefully grazing on acacia leaves. During this time, the landscape is quieter, allowing for intimate encounters with resident wildlife, from elephants and hippos to cheetahs stealthily moving through the savannah

This is the ultimate safari experience, where you are not just a spectator but a participant in the grand drama of life that plays out on the African stage. Masai Mara is home to the Big Nine: lion, elephant, rhino, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, hippo and zebra.

Your Retreat

Yoga & Programming

In yoga, we create space to listen—to our bodies, breath, and the deeper call within. This retreat is about tuning into that call, aligning with the purpose that quietly pulls at us.

Through yoga, journaling, and discussion we will unravel the layers of our being to turn into our true nature. Just as we track animals, this retreat challenges you to become the tracker of your own path, using curiosity to guide you.

Safari

Throughout the retreat we will stay in two separate camps of the Maasai Mara area so that we can experience the conservancy in its fullness.

Every day will start with an early morning game drive; when the most activity occurs. Many animals do their hunting before the sun rises. During the hottest part of the day when the animals are resting- we will do the same back at camp. Evenings will either have another game drive, a night time game drive, or a sundowner in the bush so we don't miss any of the action !

Sunrise Hot Air Balloon

This will be one the most unique and spectacular safari experiences, and we are so excited to be able to offer it on this retreat.

We will take a hot air balloon ride at sunrise, watching the golden sun cast against the plains. From here we will get a 360 degree view of the savannah, spotting wild life from up above.

After the ride we will land and have breakfast out in the bush before returning to camp. This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

“You can't think your way to a calling. Finding what is uniquely yours requires more than rationality. You have to learn how your body speaks. You have to learn how you know what you're doing. You have to follow the inner tracks of your feelings, sensations, and instincts, the integrity and truth that are deeper than ideas on what you should do. You have to learn to follow a deeper, wiser, wilder place inside of yourself. We are a part of nature, and inside each of us is a wild self that knows deeply what it is meant to do.”

Accommodations

We will stay in two different basecamps on our retreat to experience different areas of the plains.

BASECAMP ONE

Bordering the Masai Mara National Reserve and hidden away under thatched roofs on a lush peninsula along the Talek River, the tents offer great views of the savannah, always populated by wildlife.

Each tent has an en-suite bathroom that includes a shower both inside and one open-air safari shower, in addition to a private terrace with views towards the Talek river bed and the Masai Mara National Reserve. From here you can view the Mara landscape and its animals from your room.

BASECAMP TWO

We will stay at a luxury safari camp set atop and escarpment above the Mara plains. Expansive vistas stretch to the point where the plains meet the canvas of the sky. The elevated position of this camp offers front-row seats for the wildlife dramas that unfold around the natural salt lick and watering hole below the main area.
